3.5 Kiss SPOILER Review: Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid #3) by Richelle Mead

18964381

Some days, a girl just can't catch a break. . .
First, Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men, can't have sex with her gorgeous bestselling author boyfriend Seth Mortensen--in case she inadvertently kills him. Second, Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block. Third, someone's manipulating her dreams, draining her energy and supplying eerie visions of her future.

Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches a crisis point. Georgina needs to rein in her out-of-control love life and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again. . .

My SPOILER Review:

This review contains SPOILERS.

I had read the synopsis of this book so I knew what to expect, but I still wasn't ready for it. :(

There’s just so much going on in this book that it’s hard to review unless you’ve read the other books in the series.

First of all, there’s a noticeable pattern to this series which  started with book 2. The main story line of Seth and Georgina’s romance is always bogged down with some insignificant background story which always fails to gather my interest. It's always something dangerous that has to do with Georgina’s supernatural world, but Georgina always keeps it a secret from Seth until it's too late and her life's in ultimate danger. *le sigh* So, this book is no different.

So, everything’s going according to plan, except that Seth jumps the Georgina ship at the end and ends up with the most unexpected character EVER: Maddie. Really??? This just came out of left field and it’s so stupid. I’m still in shock over this!

But Georgina's not too far behind in the stupid category, because she starts shacking up with Dante - a super unsavory character who's done our dearest Erick and the world wrong! What??? Just craziness. How is Dante not in jail? He slit his sister's throat and the police never even investigated him? How is this even possible?

Anyhoo, speaking of insignificant background story - Nyx makes it into the mix as a subplot where the angels are all trying to capture the escaped deity before anyone figures out they've lost her. Also, Niphon - Georgina's imp from long ago who actually brokered her deal to Hell (and made her a succubus) rears his ugly head with a brand new succubus in tow, Tawny, whom Georgina gets stuck mentoring.

Plus, if we already didn't have enough blah! on our plates, another subplot is thrown in the mix where Vincent, a nephilim who's hiding his energy signature and posing as a human psychic is having a hush-hush relationship with an angel. They two - like Seth & Georgina - don't have sex because the angel doesn't want to fall and become a demon. Things also don't end well with them and I can't believe Vincent jumps ship at the end so carelessly as Seth does. A**holes!

In a needless attempt to grab my attention (but failing miserably), Nyx infiltrates Georgina's dreams and drains out her powers, and meanwhile she's giving Georgina some weird dreams where Georgina has a special man in her life and she actually has a daughter - oh yeah and a broken dishwasher. But Georgina doesn't see through the end of the dream and can't see who this mystery man is.

It's still a longshot of a dream since succubi can't have children. Georgina dismisses it, even though Nyx swears all her dreams come true.

But even though my interest was a tiny bit piqued, I couldn't even give this the attention it deserves because SETHHHH!!!! Aghhh! I completely take back everything good I've ever said about you. You, sir, are a pig. Ugh -- at this point, I'm rooting for Roman to come back.

*le sad sigh*
